Building up a new habit can be tough, but consistency is key. Pick a behaviour that you want to turn into a habit and make sure you do it every day, without fail. It doesn't matter how long the behaviour takes, just as long as you do it every day. Eventually, it will become second nature. You can also make the process easier on yourself by setting reminders or keeping a visual chart to track your progress. Building up new habits takes time and effort, but it's definitely worth it in the end!
It can be tough to establish a new habit. Whether you’re trying to learn a new skill or quit a bad one, it takes time and effort to make a change. However, there are a few things you can do to increase your chances of success.
First, start small.
It’s easier to maintain consistency if you focus on a manageable goal. For example, if you’re trying to exercise more, start by commit to walking for 20 minutes a day.
Once that becomes a habit, you can gradually increase the intensity and duration of your workouts.
Second, make it convenient.
Choose a time and place that makes it easy to stick to your plan. If you’re trying to eat healthier, pack your meals with healthy snacks so you’re less likely to reach for unhealthy options when you’re feeling hungry.
Finally, be patient.
Habits take time to form, so don’t get discouraged if you slip up occasionally. By consistency and perseverance, you can achieve your goal.
Now how this comes to dog training?
Well, my main job is help owners to be the best trainers for their dogs.
You are the best person who arrived in your dog`s life and my job is to help make this relationship thrive.
So if we can learn how to excel in our habit of training our dogs, everything else will fall into its place.
People often say that it takes 21 days to build up a habit. While there is some evidence to support this claim, the truth is that it can take much longer to develop a new habit, depending on the individual. The key to success is consistency. It takes time for the brain to create new neural pathways, and if you only do something sporadically, it is unlikely that a habit will form.
Instead, you need to be consistent in your practice, doing it every day (or multiple times per day) until it becomes second nature. The good news is that once a habit is established, it requires very little effort to maintain. So if you are hoping to build up a new habit, the most important thing is to be patient and consistent in your efforts.
And this serves best how our dogs learn. So if you can stick to train your dog (which can be through fun games that doesn`t even feel like training) that lasts 3-5 minutes or even less at a time, then you`ll achieve your goals a lot quicker.
You will get a lot further with only short fun, regular daily training sessions than one longer over the weekend.
